Trees
An
established tree can add a sense of stability and permanence
to a landscape. Most of the time people plant trees to
add some privacy, shade, and beauty to their gardens. Another
great use of trees is creating windbreak to protect an
exposed garden from drying its plants and soil.
If you're planting a tree in a lawn, make the hole three
or four times the diameter of the tree's root ball to minimize
competition from grass. Also, don't forget to give your
new tree a good start. Mix plenty of bulky organic matter,
with added fertilizer, into a planting hole. If you want
to help speed up the tree's establishment further, you
can do so by foliar feeding it throughout its first and
second growing season. This technique stimulates its root
growth.

1) Nature
Hills Nursery - because they started
their business as a tree nursery,
they have by far the biggest selection of trees.
A total of 151 trees. I think
any gardener can find what they are looking for
their garden. I like this website because they
have all their products so well categorized and
organized, that it makes it a breeze to see if
they have what buyer needs in seconds. Tree
categories they have include tall, unique,
ornamental, shade, edible nut, flowering, windbreak
just to mention a few. This is the place
for tree shopping!

2) Spring
Hill Nursery - they don't have as big of a
selection of trees, but they do have
some interesting ones, such as weeping pussy
willow tree, banana hardy,
just to mention a few. It is featured as a separate
category of 9 trees on their site, so you don't
have to search for it. Use

3) Michigan
Bulb - New ownership as
of 2001. They feature a separate category of trees,
shrubs, vines all in one list. This makes it a little
harder to find what you're looking for. But if you
know the name of the particular tree you're looking
for, then it's not much trouble to scan through the
list and see if they have it. Some trees they offer
include apple tree, magnolia tree, dogwood tree. Use
this link to receive $20 off your order of $50 or more! |
4) Gardener's
Supply - they are not as focused on selling
plants, but I did find some nice trees that
they offer: crabapple tree, redwood trees,
sumac and some
others. You have to search for them, they don't have
a separate category for trees on their site. |
